You will most likely see them WANTING to put it hands together, if they have a good grasp on those left hand chords. Make sure those chords are solid before starting the RH. Try assigning just the first 8 measures in week one, chords only. You can blame their method book for this shortcoming, or you can blame yourself! But it's a problem you have to work at again and again with young note-readers. Kids using certain method books frequently EXPECT to place both hands in "C position" - that is, with both hands' bottom fingers on C. What makes the Canon doubly hard for beginners is that the LH keeps moving around - not like their lesson books! It's good to shake out of the routine Yuck! They'll wonder how the piece lost its magic. starting on "g, f, e, d, c" all week long. If they don't fall into that trap, they may slip into the other pitfall of assuming the piece is in "C position," not bother to read the notes, and just play "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" etc. And they play it that way all week, firmly cementing in that new bad habit. Be sure they understand the meaning of the chord symbols over the staff and the note in the third measure must be A, etc. Pachelbel's Canon in D - Violin and Piano - Simple Version (Full Score) 4.64 4.99 Violin and Piano Johann Pachelbel Csar Madeira Sheet Music To Play Editions Piano Accompaniment, Violin - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706). and so the RH note in the second measure (there where the letter G appears) MUST be a G. They may look at the bold letter "C" above the first treble clef note, vaguely remember that you did say the first RH (right hand) note is a "C". The bass line consists of a two measure ostinato (a short melodic phrase that is repeated) and serves as the foundation for the 28 variations which follow. Pachelbel composed his chamber music, Canon in D, for three violins and bass continuo, and it is likely that he composed this piece in the 1690s while he was the organist of St Sebald, Nuremberg. Ambrosius asked Pachelbel to teach music to his son, Johann Christoph Bach (Johann Christoph later taught music to his younger brother, Johann Sebastian Bach.). It is interesting to note that while working in the Erfurt as an organist, teacher and composer, Pachelbel became friends with Ambrosius Bach, the father of Johann Sebastian Bach. His organ chorales and sacred vocal music are considered significant contributions to Protestant church music. Pachelbel composed music for organ, voice, harpsichord, and chamber ensembles, and the majority of his music was composed for church services. Canon in D was composed by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706), a German organist, teacher and composer.
